Born in Delhi, brought up in Kolkata and now living and working in Mumbai, this lady has travelled a lot. Before making her film debut in Ajnabee in 2001, she was a very successful model. She started modelling at 16 won Ford's Godrej Cinthol Supermodel contest in1996. She says she was a short, dark and round girl who was the neighbourhood goonda, however she was good at studies and was the head girl at Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan in Kolkata she wanted to take up medicine but that failed when she passed out during the dissection of a rat!
She is known for her dusky and sexy looks and has set the screen on fire with the likes of Jism, Race etc. No wonder then, that her name means 'dark, deep desire'. But, she doesn't rely on her sexy looks alone, she has done films like Apharan, Corporate etc which show her in a de-glam realistic way.

Lara Dutta
This is the story of a small town girls' entry into first, the world of glamour and then, the world of cinema. Born in Ghaziabad, a small town of UP, Lara completed her education in Bangalore, where her family had later moved to. She then joined the fashion world.
Winning the Annual Gladsrags modelling competition in her native India, Lara got the right to be the first Indian representative at the 1997 Miss Intercontinental pageant, where she bagged the first place.
Later, she was crowned Femina Miss India Universe and Miss Universe in 2000. Her performance at the 2000 Miss Universe contest, got her the highest individual score in any category in the history of the competition. This led to her appointment as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador in the following year, 2001.
After gaining recognition in the modelling world, Lara was signed for a Tamil film, 'Arasatchi' in 2002, but the movie released only in mid-2004, due to financial problems. 'Andaaz', her Hindi debut in 2003 was box office success which won her the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. She then appeared in a number of films, some of which failed at the box office and some of which were mildly successful. After that, 'Masti' , 'Kaal', 'No Entry' and 'Partner' were some of the successful movies that she starred in. 'Bhagam Bhag' in 2006 faired well at the box office. Lara acted in Shaad Ali's 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom', which released in 2007, for which her performance received mixed reviews .
The movie did not perform well at the box office in India, but was a hit overseas, especially in the UK. Her most recent release, Partner opened to a good response and was a hit.
The beauty queen-turned model has also been working towards the cause of HIV/AIDS awareness involving herself with several organisations that educate people about the causes and dangers lurking around AIDS.

Mallika Sherawat
Mallika Sherawat is an Indian actress who is known for her bold scenes in the film industry. Mallika’s birth name was Reema Lamba which she changed to avoid getting confused with other actresses of the same name in Bollywood.
Mallika hails from a small town, Rohtak, in Haryana. Mallika was a student of philosophy at Miranda House in Delhi University. She was married to Captain Karan Singh Gill of the Jet Airways and divorced later.
Mallika Sherawat shot to fame in Bollywood because of her dare bare attitude in ‘Khwahish’. There has been no looking back since. Mallika received great acclaim for Mahesh Bhatt’s thriller ‘Murder’, which did really well at the box office in 2004.
She also bagged an international project with Jackie Chan called ‘The Myth’. Even though her role in the movie was small, she got noticed by the international fraternity.
It has also been rumoured that Mallika got an offer from Playboy magazine, but turned it down to avoid being ostracized by the Indian film industry. Mallika has often been in news due to bold remarks as well.
This bombshell surprised everyone by her sudden entry in tinsel town and has slowly and steadily carved a niche for herself in Bollywood.

Sushmita Sen  
Sushmita Sen was born on 19th November, 1975 in Hyderabad to Shubeer Sen, a former Indian Air Force Wing Commander, and Subhra Sen, a jewelry designer. Sushmita grew up in New Delhi and had plans to pursue Journalism but life had bigger things in store.
At the age of 18, Sushmita Sen won the title of Femina Miss India beating Aishwarya Rai. Sushmita went on to represent India at the 1994 Miss Universe Pageant in Philippines.
Sushmita Sen went on to win the pageant, becoming the first woman from India to win a Miss Universe Pageant. The same year Aishwarya Rai also won the title of Miss World.
After her reign as Miss Universe came to an end, she ventured into acting. She made her debut in Bollywood with ‘Dastak’ in 1996. Her subsequent appearance as Rupali in David Dhawan’s ‘Biwi No. 1’ won her an award in the Best Supporting Actress category. Her career in Bollywood never reached the peak like it did for her competitor Aishwarya Rai. She even ventured into Tollywood. However, even after facing various highs and lows in her career, Sushmita sen is still considered as one of the most popular actresses of the tinsel town today.
In 2000 Sushmita Sen adopted a daughter, Renee, and currently resides in Mumbai, India.

Sonam Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor was born on June 9, 1985 in Bombay to Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor. Sonam is the eldest of 3 children and has a sister, Rhea and brother Harshavardhan. Anil Kapoor is a very well known Bollywood actor who shot to fame in Hollywood after his performance in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Sonam’s mother was also a well known model in her time.
Sonam did her graduation in Political Science and Economic from University of Mumbai. She is fluent in Hindi, English and Punjabi. She also has training in classical and latin dance forms.
Sonam Kapoor started her stint in Bollywood by assisting under sanjay Leela Bansali during the making of his film titled ‘Black’. Sonam made her acting debut opposite Ranbir kapoor in Sanjay Leela Bansali’s ‘Saawariya’. The film bombed at the box office but shot Sonam to the limelight. Her next movie was titled ‘Delhi 6’ in which she starred opposite Abhishek Bachchan. This film also did not well. Sonam has signed David Dhawan’s ‘Come On Pappu’ opposite Akshay Kumar.
Even though her movies have not performed well, Sonam is still immensely popular with the youth and is considered one of the fashion icons of the country.
 

Malaika Arora  
Malaika Arora is a well known model, actress and VJ. She was born in Mumbai to Joyce and Anil Arora. Malaika has a younger sister, Amrita Arora, who is also a well known actress in Bollywood.
Malaika did her schooling from Mumbai and soon became a VJ. She was selected as one of the Vjs by MTV India when they started operations here. Malaika became a household name when she bagged prime time roles in ‘Love Line’ and ‘Style Check’ on MTV. Her popularity has been on the rise since then.
After her stint with MTV, Malaika ventured into modeling and became successful in this field too. She has bagged numerous advertisements and item numbers in Bollywood. Recently, Malaika did an item number in Sajid Khan’s ‘Heyy Babyy’ and another one in ‘Om Shanti Om’.
Malaika married Arbaaz Khan who is a well known Bollywood actor. Her brother-in-laws, Salman Khan and Sohail Khan, are very popular actors as well.

Esha Deol
Esha Deol is the daughter of Bollywood actors Hema Malini and Dharmendra Deol. She was born on 2nd November, 1982 and has a younger sister, Ahana, and two step brothers, Sunny and Bobby. Both her brothers are big Bollywood stars in their own right. Esha Deol has inherited her mother’s beauty and fathers acting talent.
Esha is fluent in English, Hindi and Tamil. She is also a trained classical dancer in Odissi style, along with her mother and sister. She has a Masters Degree in Media Arts and a Bachelors Degree in computer technology from Oxford University. She is state level football layer and was selected in the Indian national team.
After completing her education, Esha ventured into acting like her parents and step brothers. Her first role was in ‘Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche’ in 2002. But her first hit was ‘Dhoom’ in 2004. After ‘Dhoom’, Esha was on a roll. ‘Kaal’, ‘No Entry’, and ‘Dus’ were also big hits. Esha also acted in a Tamil movie ‘Aiyatha Ezhuthu’. Esha has even received a national award for being a part of the movie ‘LOC Kargil’ in 2003.

Freida Pinto
Freida Pinto has become a name to reckon with in not only in Bollywood but Hollywood as well. Freida’s journey from being a little known model to a becoming a household name is nothing short of a miracle.
Freida Pinto was born on October 18, 1984 in Mumbai to Frederick Pinto and Sylvia Pinto. Freida has an older sister who works in an Indian news channel as associate producer.
Freida completed her graduation from St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai in English Literature. After completing her graduation, Freida entered the world of modeling and even hosted a travel show called ‘Full Circle’on Zee International Asia Pacific. She is also a trained dancer in Salsa and Indian Classical dance forms. Freida trained under Barry John himself in the Barry John Acting Studio for a period of three moths.
Freida Pinto made her debut in films with the Academy Award winning ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. She played the lead role of Latika in the multi award winning movie. Her career has sky rocketed since the release of the film and taken her straight to the red carpet with the top names of Hollywood.
In a recent survey Freida was also named among the best dressed women in the world due to her choice of clothes on the red carpet events around the world.
Freida was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category in the reputed BAFTA awards. Recently Freida has been cast in Woody Allen’s next film with the likes of Anthony Hopkins, Antoniio Banderas and Naomi Watts. Shooting of the film starts in July 2009 and is set in London.

Neha Dhupia
For someone who started her career with television at the age of 19, with the serial 'Rajdhani', the silver screen was inevitable. Neha Dhupia made a smooth transition from television to fashion to finally, the world of cinema.
She was Femina Miss India Universe in 2002 and competed at Miss Universe 2002, finishing in the top ten. Neha Dhupia was also awarded Margo Miss Beautiful Skin and MTV Most-Wanted. After a small stint in the fashion world, Neha entered Bollywood with her debut movie 'Qayamat: City Under Threat', which was a success at the box office.
Her bold role in the movie 'Julie' rode her to popularity and gave her the status of a sex symbol. Her dual role of twin sisters in 'Sheesha' in 2005 failed to cause any ripples and the movie bombed.
This was followed by 'Kyaa Kool Hai Hum' in 2005 and 'Shootout at Lokhandwala' in 2007, which did well at the box office. Nehas' performance was widely appreciated in her most recent movie, 'Singh is Kinng', which was the years' biggest blockbuster.
Extending her platform, Neha has also played leading lady in an Indo-Japanese film. She has modelled for various brands such as Reebok, AirTel, National, Mitsubishi Lancer and Wagon R.

Mahi Gill
Mahi Gill is an Indian actress who hails from Chandigarh, Punjab. Mahi first made her debut in Punjabi films before she ventured into Bollywood.
Mahi has completed her Masters in theatre from Punjab University in 1998. mahi got her first break in the movie world with a Punjabi film ‘Havaayen’ and has done other Punjabi movies since along with theatre.
Mahi played the lead actress in Anurag Kashyup’s ‘Dev D’. She played the character of Paro and received great acclaim from the critics for her role. The story of ‘Dev D’ is a modern take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Bengali novel ‘DevDas’.
Anurag Kashyup saw Mahi Gill at a party and decided that he wanted to cast her as Paro in ‘Dev D’. This movie has been a defining entry into Bollywood and she has already bagged UTV’s ‘Aage Se Right’ opposite Shreyas Talpade and Irrfan Khan.
Mahi’s personal life has reportedly had many ups and downs and there has even been speculation of a divorce.

Kareena Kapoor
Born to actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita and popularly known as ‘Bebo’ in her familyand the film world, Kareena Kapoor is a four-time Filmfare Award-winning actress from the iconic Kapoor family of Bollywood.
Being a Punjabi and privileged to be born into an influential film family in Mumbai, Kareena's name is said to have inspired by the book, Anna Karenina. Kareena is the grand-daughter of Raj Kapoor, who is more commonly known as the showman of Hindi cinema. She is also the great grand-daughter of Prithviraj Kapoor.
Rishi Kapoor a well-known and popular actor is Kareena’s uncle. Her sister, Karisma Kapoor, is also a popular actress who got married just when she was set to rule Bollywood by her powerful performances in some of the blockbuster movies. Among other living relatives of Kareena are maternal aunt Sadhana, and cousins Ranbir Kapoor and Nikhil Nanda.
Kareena who is currently dating Saif Ali Khan was previously associated with co-actor Shahid Kapoor, the relationship which was later discontinued mutually by both of them. Though both Shahid and Kareena claim to have friendly relationship with each other. Though Kareena has been time and again liked to a number of co-stars, but the Kapoor girl has been steadily denying all these as rumours.
At her younger age Kareena would frequently accompany her sister to film shoots. Despite being born into a film family, Kareena at first wanted to become a lawyer. Her childhood was spent at Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai after which she went to Welham Girls Boarding School in Dehradun. She has studied Commerce at Mithibai College, Vile Parle from 1997 to 1998. Kareena then went to Harvard for summer school and took a course in microcomputers and information technology for three months.
Success eagerly embraced her with films like "Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai" and "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham". The former became one of the biggest hits of that year and the latter came the second highest grossing film of 2001.These successes established her as one of the industry's most successful stars.
Kareena’s latest blockbuster ‘Jab We Met’, in which earned praise from all the quarters for playing the bubbly girl from Punjab, again catapulted her to the to the top rung of the Bollywood, that be of the times.

Katrina Kaif
Katrina Kaif (born July 16, 1984) is a model and Bollywood actress.Her mother is English and her father is an NRI originally from Kashmir. She was born in Hong Kong, grew up in Hawaii and London. She has seven sisters.
Her height is 5ft 8.5 inches.and her zodiac sign is "scorpio".
She started modeling by accident at the age of 14, when she was approached for a jewelery campaign. After that she continued modeling in London.
Filmmaker Kaizad Gustad discovered Katrina in London and gave her a part in his film Boom. It wasn't long before the acting bug bit Katrina who decided to take it up full time and move permanently to Mumbai.
With her attractive features, Katrina was offered a number of modeling assignments. However, filmmakers were at first hesitant to sign her because of her linguistic shortcomings, such as her inability to speak Hindi. Films that did feature her usually had her voice dubbed over by a native speaker of the film's language.
She has done two Telugu movies - Malliswari(2004) and Allari Pidugu(2005) and a Malayalam film (Balram vs. Taradas).
This changed with the film, Namastey London, in which she dubbed her own lines.
She is a private person and don't go to too many parties. She wants to go normally with friends. And she is also very particular about her clothes which she wears .although she wears bold outfits on screen or for ads but she feels more comfortable in not-so-revealing clothes in personal life.
She had just finished his Kathak classes in 40 days only in which she had to dance for 7 hours non-stop everyday.
She is said to be romantically linked with Salman khan. Although she has been seeing Salman Khan for sometime now, she still refuses to talk about him in the media. She has made it clear that her personal life is not meant to be known to all and that no one has a right to pass any kind of judgment on it.
She has lot of exciting projects lined up. One of them is ‘Partner’ with Salman Khan and Govinda. She is also doing ‘Apne’ with Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol together in the movie, for the first time.
Then there is Anees Bazmee’s ‘Welcome’ with Akshay Kumar.Her most recent release was film ‘Namaste, London’ with Akshay Kumar.
