Telugu TV Actress Ragini Biography

Ragini (रागिनी खन्ना) is an Indian television actress & host. She has appeared in many Hindi serials, initially starting with Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi. She is most known for the role of Suhana in the popular sitcom Sasural Genda Phool which aired on Star Plus and ran successfully for two years. She has appeared in many television serials & reality shows.

She participated as a contestant in the fourth season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, a Sony Entertainment Television dance show based on the original UK show Strictly Come Dancing. She also hosted its fifth season (Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5) along with Manish Paul.

She made her Bollywood debut with the film Teen Thay Bhai, which was released on April 15, 2011. The film received negative reviews but Ragini's role was appreciated by her fans.

Early life

Ragini Khanna was born in Mumbai. She did her schooling from "R. N. Shah High School" and Masters in Commerce from University of Mumbai. She was a very good student. At the age of 8, Ragini started learning singing from “Prakash Prasad”, son of “Jagannath Prasad”. She wanted to become a singer but destiny had other plans for her and eventually she became an actress. Ragini was still a student when she was offered for acting.

Career
Ragini Khanna started her career in early 2008 which was a print ad shot in Panvil. Her debut TV serial was Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi of NDTV Imagine. In this show, she played the role of "Ragini Sharma", the middle daughter of "Radha Sharma" (played by Supriya Pilgaonkar).

In 2009, she got her breakthrough role of "Bharti" in Sony TV’s Bhaskar Bharti. She played the role of female avatar of "Bhaskar" (played by Eijaz Khan), a man who transforms into a woman as a result of being cursed by one of his love interests. It acted like a milestone for Ragini's career and she quickly stole the limelight for her role. Her acting was appreciated by viewers as well as TV personalities. Bhaskar Bharti gave Indian television a new meaning with its unique concept.

She was also seen as a guest along with Sara Khan, Ratan Rajput & Tina Dutta in an episode of 10 Ka Dum hosted by Salman Khan. She won an amount of Rs. 10,00,000 along with Ratan Rajput.

Since March 2010, Khanna started working in Sasural Genda Phool which was launched as prime time show on Star Plus. She received a lot of appreciation & recognition for her role of "Suhana" in the serial. This show made her one of the best actresses of Indian television. Sasural Genda Phool ran successfully for two years with consistent good TRPs.

Meanwhile, she took part in a celebrity gossip show on NDTV Imagine called Meethi Choori No.1. She also appeared in a special episode of the Kaun Banega Crorepati 4 hosted by Amitabh Bachchan with 5 other television actress Disha Vakani, Pooja Gor, Aashka Goradia, Bharti Singh and Aishwarya Sakhuja[1]. She helped in winning 12,50,000 rupees for "Sahyog Vikas Sanghthan". It also marked an interlude of her singing a famous song from an older movie of Amitabh Bachchan.

In December 2010, she participated in the 4th Season of celebrity dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. It helped her in showing her dancing skills to the audience & she proved that she can compete any actress on the floor. She was eliminated at 9th position on 14 February 2011. After dancing, she then participated in a celebrity singing reality show called Star Ya Rockstar, which aired on Zee TV.

In 2011, Khanna made her Bollywood debut with Teen They Bhai, a comedy film directed by "Mrighdeep Lamba", produced by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Productions and PVR Pictures. The film mostly received negative reviews from the critics but Ragini presented herself very well in the film although she had a small role in the film.

On 21 April 2012, Sasural Genda Phool finally ended with a 1 hour special episode and was replaced by a new series Ek Doosre Se Karte Hain Pyaar Hum. She also appeared in the promotional title song video of Ruk Jana Nahi, another Star Plus serial.

Personal Life

Ragini's parents are Praveen Khanna & Kamini Khanna. She is the 2nd child of her parents. She has an elder brother, Amit. She is the niece of famous Bollywood actor Govinda, and the cousin of Krushna Abhishek and TV Actress Soumya Seth. She lives in Mumbai. She is a well trained singer and dancer. She knows Hindi, English, Marathi and Punjabi language.

Anchoring & Other Projects
Khanna is a very good speaker both in Hindi as well as in English. So, it was easy for her to be an anchor or host. She has hosted shows for TV channels like Star Plus, Sony TV & many well-known award functions like STAR Parivaar Awards, Big Star Young Entertainer Awards & many other events.

In 2010, She appeared in NDTV Imagine's show Big Money: Chota Parda Bada Game hosted by R. Madhavan along with Ratan Rajput. They won and donated Rs. 10,00,000 to Project Nanhi Kali's educational trust.

She also anchored the music launch of Bollywood film Ra.One with Vivan Bhatena. It did telecast on STAR Plus on Sept 18, 2011 in a grand way. She also shook a leg with Shahrukh khan on the foot tapping number from the film, Chammak Challo at the event.

In 2012, Khanna anchored Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5, 5th season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa series with Manish Paul. It aired from June 16, 2012 and recently ended on Sept 30, 2012.[2]

Ragini has been a regular stage performer as well. She has performed in various award functions including STAR Parivaar Awards, BIG Star Entertainment Awards & many other award ceremonies. She have also done some TV advertisements. e.g. Emami Vasocare.
